Any athlete showing signs or symptoms of a possible concussion will be removed from activity and referred for appropriate assessment. An athlete with a suspected or diagnosed concussion must not return to basketball until the appropriate return-to-sport requirements have been completed and medical clearance has been provided when required.

This reflects Ontario Basketball’s concussion policy, which requires athletes with a suspected concussion to be removed from sport, medically assessed and prevented from returning to sanctioned activity before they are properly cleared.

Our coaches are also expected to:

  • Take injuries and symptoms seriously.
  • Follow facility emergency procedures.
  • Maintain access to emergency contact information.
  • Communicate incidents to parents or guardians.
  • Document significant injuries and safety concerns.
  • Never pressure an athlete to continue playing through injury.
